Turbo petrol Changan UNI models for export

Four of the five exported UNI specifications run a Blue Whale turbocharged petrol engine, and there are only two engines behind them. The NE1.5T makes 138 kW (188 PS) and 300 Nm and drives a wet 7-speed dual-clutch. The NE2.0T makes 171 kW (233 PS) and 390 Nm and drives an Aisin 8-speed torque-converter automatic.

The engines matter less than the gearboxes for an export decision. A wet dual-clutch is efficient and fast but heats up in permanent crawling traffic and loses torque convincingly at altitude. A torque-converter automatic is heavier and thirstier but does not care. That is the whole basis on which we steer buyers between the 1.5T and the 2.0T, regardless of which body they have chosen.

Turbo petrol is also the simpler import. There is no traction battery, so no UN38.3 documentation, no Ro-Ro surcharge and no dangerous-goods declaration — which is why the 1.5T grades ship on the shortest lead times in the catalogue at 25 to 35 days.

What is the real-world fuel consumption of the Blue Whale 1.5T?

Plan on 7.0 to 7.5 L/100 km in hot-climate urban duty against the 6.1 to 6.5 L/100 km homologation figure. WLTC cycle values are measured at moderate ambient temperature with the air conditioning off; a Gulf or West African summer with the climate control working hard costs roughly 10 to 15 percent. Highway cruising at 100 km/h comes in under the quoted figure.
