The GCC is a left-hand-drive, hot-climate market with the shortest transit of anywhere we ship — Jebel Ali is 18 to 25 days from Shanghai — so we quote the 2.0T grades with the uprated cooling pack rather than the 1.5T volume trim.
Heat is the specification driver here, not price. A Gulf summer runs the air conditioning at full load for months, which costs roughly 10 to 15 percent of the homologation fuel figure and puts sustained thermal load on the drivetrain. The 2.0T with the Aisin 8-speed torque-converter automatic handles that duty cycle better than a wet dual-clutch in stop-start traffic, and the GCC market expects the performance anyway.
Jebel Ali is the most efficient port we ship to. An 18 to 25 day Ro-Ro transit means a car ordered at the start of a quarter is on the ground before the end of it, and the re-export trade out of Jebel Ali into Iraq, Iran-adjacent markets and East Africa means many of our GCC buyers are traders rather than end users. Quote FOB to those buyers; they have better freight rates than we do.
SABER is the certification that catches people. Saudi Arabia requires both a Product Certificate of Conformity and a per-shipment Shipment Certificate through the SABER platform before customs will release, and the product certificate has to exist first. The UAE route through ESMA ECAS registration is more forgiving but still pre-shipment.
