Ship Changan UNI vehicles to Kazakhstan by rail, not by sea. The China-Europe block train out of Chongqing crosses at Khorgos and reaches Almaty in 12 to 18 days; the sea-and-road alternative through Bandar Abbas or St Petersburg takes six weeks or more and costs more once inland haulage is added.
How the rail shipment is actually configured
- Vehicles are loaded two or three per 40HQ container at the Chongqing yard, wheel-strapped and battery-disconnected.
- Containers join a scheduled block train — departures are fixed weekly, so the lead time is the production slot plus the next departure, not a vessel-booking lottery.
- Customs transit is handled under the TIR or the Eurasian transit procedure; the container is not opened at Khorgos.
- De-consolidation happens at Almaty or Tashkent, from where road-feeder reaches Bishkek and Dushanbe in a further three to five days.
What EAC certification requires
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Belarus apply the Eurasian Economic Union technical regulation TR CU 018/2011 on the safety of wheeled vehicles. A vehicle needs a type approval or a certificate of conformity issued by an accredited EAEU body, and the individual unit needs an electronic vehicle passport (EPTS) before it can be registered. Neither is issued after the fact without pain.
“Technical Regulation TR CU 018/2011 establishes the safety requirements for wheeled vehicles placed on the market of the Eurasian Economic Union.”
Use CIP, not CIF
FOB and CIF are sea and inland-waterway terms under Incoterms 2020 and do not apply to a rail movement. The multimodal equivalents are CPT and CIP. CIP also carries a useful upgrade over CIF: since the 2020 revision it requires all-risks Institute Cargo Clauses (A) cover as the default rather than the minimum named-perils Clauses (C). For a container of cars crossing four borders, that is the cover you want.
Which model to send
The UNI-V 1.5T is the volume seller across Central Asia — left-hand drive matches the region, the fastback body reads as premium against the ageing sedan stock, and 6.1 L/100 km matters at Kazakh fuel prices. The UNI-T 2.0T sells into the mountain oblasts and into government tenders where the Aisin automatic and the 390 Nm are worth the premium.
